Capital to Coast Charity Ride

This Sunday is looking pretty good. 25degrees and mostly sunshine with some cloud cover. Perfect for a 60 mile bike ride from London to Hove.
While it isn’t as (in)famous as last weeks BHF ride. It follows a parallel route with far less people taking part. 2000 rather than 30000.. much more of a chilled out ride. The only Hill to worry about is Devils Dyke.. which is like the slightly awkward little sister of the Beacon.

FutureCycles are at one of the checkpoints, offering bike repairs, spares and a few energy foods.
Unlike the BHF ride, it is still possible to sign up on the line. There are other route options available as well, a 60 mile circular trip starting and finishing in Hove as well as a 30 mile ride.

Rapha Gentleman’s TT

Passing by the Lewes shop this weekend were a race team from Brompton Bicycle. Competing in the inaugural Rapha Gentleman’s TT, the team were on their way from the heart of the Capital to Brighton and back again.

Matched up against a dozen other teams, including professional riders, it would be hard to imagine them storming away with victory. However, at any time the going got a little to tough, the Brompton riders were permitted to fold up their bikes and jump on public transport!… maybe not such an advantage on a Sunday.

The Brompton team took five trains, one steam train, had 12 coffees, 18 croissants, 6 pasties, went on 3 rides on Brighton Pier, won a stuffed toy chicken, cycled over 40 miles, spent some quality time with friends on the way…. and didn’t come last. Well done!

We’ll see them next weekend at the Smithfields Nocturne and again at the Brompton World Championships in October.

The first time i remember seeing this lot was on the Hell of the Ashdown. Dave and myself started around the same time as them.. Damn they were all quick, we managed to keep on their rear wheels for a short while, but as soon as we got to the second major climb, they were gone and we were left far behind.

Here they are outside the Forest Row shop. If you don’t know who they are already, they are the premier Ladies cycling club in Kent and the South East with one of the nicest and most obvious club kits!

Workshop prices Lewes

Tune-up £25 plus parts

Adjust brakes and gears, wipe and lubricate transmission

Safety check and list any recommendations

General Service £49 plus parts

Full function and safety check and adjustment of all components, lubricate as required

Adjust gears, brakes, hubs, headset, bottom bracket (if relevant)

Fit any required replacement brake blocks, gear and brake cables and tyres

True and tension wheels, inflate tyres to correct pressure

Wipe down frame and forks, degrease front and rear mechanisms

Full Overhaul £125 plus parts

Complete strip-down, degrease, clean and inspection of all components.

Check bike for faults including alignment of frame and forks

Re-assemble bike with new brake and gear cables

Grease hubs, headset, bottom bracket, brake bosses and seatpost

Lubricate transmission

True and tension wheels, inflate tyres to correct pressure

Adjust all components as required

Fit any required replacement parts

At the moment we don’t take bookings, just turn up, drop the bike off and leave with an estimation of work to be done. Pick it up the next day.

So tomorrow I am taking a day out from the shop to travel up to see our friends at Velorution in order to pick up the two wheeled Christiania child friendly cargo bike.

With its capacious front box, the Christiana remains the original and best (not to mention Eco-friendly and fast) way to transport children.
