Passing by the Lewes shop this weekend were a race team from Brompton Bicycle. Competing in the inaugural Rapha Gentleman’s TT, the team were on their way from the heart of the Capital to Brighton and back again.
Matched up against a dozen other teams, including professional riders, it would be hard to imagine them storming away with victory. However, at any time the going got a little to tough, the Brompton riders were permitted to fold up their bikes and jump on public transport!… maybe not such an advantage on a Sunday.
The Brompton team took five trains, one steam train, had 12 coffees, 18 croissants, 6 pasties, went on 3 rides on Brighton Pier, won a stuffed toy chicken, cycled over 40 miles, spent some quality time with friends on the way…. and didn’t come last. Well done!
We’ll see them next weekend at the Smithfields Nocturne and again at the Brompton World Championships in October.
